Now there are a few reasons why I want to address this topic. The main reason being that I believe a family member of mine has become completely deceived by a necromancer. In an attempt to consult a deceased loved one, this family member now seems to believe that everyone they know and love will go to heaven and is of God. And that couldn’t be any further from the truth! People, including our loved ones (and our own selves!) die and go to hell if we die in sin. It is what it is. And it all boils down to this, you either believe what the (entire!) bible teaches or you DON’T.
Many of these mediums also claim to be believers but God forbids sorcery and divination. Why would he give someone a “gift” or a “calling” doing something that is abominable to Him? He doesn’t. Witchcraft, in ALL it’s forms is of the devil. Do not be deceived. Do not be so desperate and grieved that you allow yourself to idolize the dead person or trust in someone who is obviously sinning and disobedient.
“Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.” (Ephesians 2:1-2, NLT)
You see the truth is that these people are filled with (and fooled by!) demons. And you open yourself up to deception by entertaining these familiar, lying spirits. You can not reach the dead. I just don’t believe that. And if you could, the only message you would receive from them would be to REPENT, for the kingdom of God is at hand. That’s all the rich man wanted to tell his family (Luke 16:19-31)! That’s all Jesus had to say to those who died before him!!
“Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit. So he went and preached to the spirits in prison— those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood. And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.” (1 Peter 3:18-22, NLT)
I understand that losing loved ones can be very overwhelming. I understand how people can find themselves desperate to wish their loved ones the best or to even reconnect with them (especially if the death was mysterious). But we are to turn to God in these difficult times. He is our comforter and our healer. He will provide all the help we need to carry on despite the painful loss. We do not need to turn to satan and his
consoling DANGEROUS lies. More importantly, we have to be willing to “let the dead bury the dead” in order to wholeheartedly follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and to obey the commandments of God. When we believe that any and everyone we knew and love went to heaven, we deceive ourselves into believing that sin is not an issue. But the word of the Lord is true!
“For all people are mine to judge—both parents and children alike. And this is my rule: The person who sins is the one who will die.” -Ezekiel 18:4 (I encourage you to read the whole chapter of Ezekiel 18. I linked it here for your convenience.)
Besides, the bible describes death as sleep until the Great and Terrible day of the Lord. It doesn’t mention any deceased people (not even the disciples or patriarchs) being in heaven other than the martyrs (Revelation 6:9-11). There’s hell, and there’s what Jesus referred to as “Abraham’s bosom” (which is Paradise). And we know that paradise isn’t heaven because Jesus told the thief next to him on the cross that he’d be with him that day in Paradise.
“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” (Matthew 12:40)
So we need to start reading the bible for ourselves (and stop watching so much TV!). If we died and went directly to heaven, that would defeat the whole purpose of being resurrected.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, NLT)
So I hope that this post causes you to consider some things. Do not grieve like those who have no hope and do not be enchanted by satan or his workers of iniquity. Repent and believe the gospel regardless.
With nothing but love,
