Why I no longer celebrate traditional holidays

Since the holidays are right around the corner, I thought it’d be the perfect time to share with you all why I no longer celebrate them. So basically, I don’t celebrate traditional holidays anymore because I found out that they all have pagan origins. And I know that a lot of Christians still celebrate Halloween, Christmas, and Easter (really everything!) so keep in mind that I’m not trying to antagonize anybody.  I’m just sharing with you all how I feel about it. But I would still encourage you to do your own research (and to study the scriptures to show yourself approved) because we are not only destroyed for lack of knowledge but for rejecting the truth.

“Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-13)

Now since the holidays do not genuinely commemorate God, partaking in the festivities just for fun would all boil down to me being a  lover of pleasure more than a lover of God. And I don’t know about you but I don’t want to deceive myself. I don’t want to be thinking that I know and love God more than anything when I really don’t.

“If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.” (1 John 2:4)

Now that’s haunting! And if you TRULY know God then you already know that we don’t get to just worship Him however we want. We have to worship Him in spirit and in TRUTH and in obedience! So to me, celebrating pagan holidays in the name of Jesus is like offering up strange fire to God and it’s disobedience. The bible is very clear on coming separate and not conforming to the customs of this world. And God specifically told His people not to worship him the way other nations worshiped their idols.

“When the Lord your God goes ahead of you and destroys the nations and you drive them out and live in their land, do not fall into the trap of following their customs and worshiping their gods. Do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations worship their gods? I want to follow their example.’ You must not worship the Lord your God the way the other nations worship their gods, for they perform for their gods every detestable act that the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters as sacrifices to their gods. So be careful to obey all the commands I give you. You must not add anything to them or subtract anything from them.”

(Dueteronomy 29:29-32)

So it is what it is. And it doesn’t matter what everyone else is doing. People have seared consciences, that’s another reason why I’ve decided to stop following the traditions of men and to start following Jesus!

With love,

Brandi

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. (Colossians 2:8)
