God is not “Dope”

So last week I talked a little bit about fearing God, and in addition to that post I just want to comment on some foolish quotes I’ve been seeing. Now we all know that God is good  (which is the adjective definition of “Dope”) but we need to be careful whenever we find ourselves in agreement with this world. This world is wicked and deceived so you can be sure that God isn’t flattered, let alone pleased.

When we allow ourselves to become enticed by the world’s cool version of God (and their false gospel!), we are on our way to being drawn back into darkness. God is not our homeboy! He is not what’s trending or or in style. God is HOLY, and He doesn’t change with (and isn’t represented by!) the culture. This mindset is disrespectful and carnal (obviously because the carnal mind is enmity against God! Romans 8:7).

So we really have to start fearing the Lord because our deceitful hearts and this world wants to make God and His son Jesus Christ out to be something that they are not. No matter how much the times have changed or what society “evolves” into, God is the same as He has always been and He will never change.

“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?(Numbers 23:19, NLT)

(a couple more scriptures)

  • “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8, NLT)
  • A voice said, “Shout!” I asked, “What should I shout?” “Shout that people are like the grass. Their beauty fades as quickly as the flowers in a field. The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the Lord. And so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:6-8, NLT)

God is who HE says He is, And He likes (and He hates!) what He always said He did! We can not change Him. And the world can not change Him (or His standards!) in order to accommodate their sin and worldliness.  So instead of coming in agreement with trying to alter God and His Word, we need to start fighting through the sanctification process of being transformed by the renewing of our minds. We can not properly serve the Lord still thinking, doing or being like we were when we were in the world.

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. “(Romans 12:1-2, NLT)

Jesus Christ and his true followers (or children of God) do not fit into this world so don’t fall into that “coexist” or tolerance trap. Don’t be ashamed of holiness either and be prepared for the rejection that comes along with being fully surrendered. Seriously, pray and stand your ground, or be washed away in this great flood of deception. We’re in the end times!

♥♥ Sometimes we entertain the world’s foolishness because we are covetous. Meaning we still desire notoriety and to live a certain (worldly) lifestyle. But that is idolatry and it’s offensive to God. We have to be content with the truth (which is Jesus Christ) alone.

Read this: (Malachi 3:13-18, NLT) “You have said terrible things about me,” says the Lord. “But you say, ‘What do you mean? What have we said against you?’ “You have said, ‘What’s the use of serving God? What have we gained by obeying his commands or by trying to show the Lord of Heaven’s Armies that we are sorry for our sins? From now on we will call the arrogant blessed. For those who do evil get rich, and those who dare God to punish them suffer no harm.’” Then those who feared the Lord spoke with each other, and the Lord listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name. “They will be my people,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “On the day when I act in judgment, they will be my own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child. Then you will again see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.”

Fearing God

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” (Proverbs 3:7)

So there’s this common idea, or misconception (which is a view or an opinion that is incorrect because it is based on faulty thinking or understanding) that suggests that we don’t have to be afraid of God. We’re being told (by people who obviously don’t fear God!) that fearing the Lord means just believing in Him or just “respecting” His position as God. But God is not the president or some big boss of your company. He is our heavenly Father. And what child (with any sense!) isn’t afraid of their parent’s wrath!?

See we’ve gotten this thing all backwards. We ARE to be afraid of God. What we aren’t to do is fear man. Man is who we should be merely “respecting”.

Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.” (1 Peter 2:17)

See pastors who tell you not to be afraid of God are most likely the same pastors who don’t preach repentance or holiness. That’s the problem with these churches now. But how many of you know that truly fearing God is the only way that we will depart from evil and become acceptable to Him. Yes, we are drawn by His love and kindness but it is the FEAR of the Lord that keeps up abiding.

By mercy and lovingkindness and truth [not superficial ritual] wickedness is cleansed from the heart, And by the fear of the Lord one avoids evil. (Proverbs 16:6, AMP)

If we want our relationship with the Lord to be more than shallow and sensual (or emotional)  then we better get serious about HIS terms and HIS standards. Being afraid of God will not hinder your relationship with Him. As a matter of fact, it will make it better than ever! Because this is when you will begin to experience true love for and intimacy with the Father.

The secret [of the sweet, satisfying companionship] of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its [deep, inner] meaning.” (Psalm 25:14, AMPC)

So I just wanted to briefly address this mindset, and more importantly, leave you with a few scriptures to get acquainted with. Let’s stop playing with God.

Psalm 34:11-16, NET Come children! Listen to me! I will teach you what it means to fear  the LordDo you want to really live? Would you love to live a long, happy life? Then make sure you don’t speak evil words or use deceptive speech! Turn away from evil and do what is right! Strive for peace and promote it! The Lord pays attention to the godly
and hears their cry for help. But the Lord opposes evildoers
and wipes out all memory of them from the earth.”

Job 28:28  And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”

Matthew 10:28 “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Philippians 2:12-13 “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

Psalm 147:10-11 He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy.”

*Please note that we obey God because we love Him (and are in agreement with His perfect ways!). Enslaving, tormenting and condemning fear is not of the Father. Remember, we had a choice to either accept or reject the gospel!

John 14:21-24, NET The person who has my commandments and obeys them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him.” “Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “what has happened that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him. The person who does not love me does not obey my words. And the word you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.”

1 John 4:14-18, NLT And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.  Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.  All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.”
